Astra Zeneca 70% effectiveness a worry?
At the end of January, the EU Medicines Agency could approve the Coronavirus vaccine from Oxford University and Astra Zeneca. The protection rate – according to interim evaluations of the data – is 70%.
So, 70 out of 100 people are protected from Coronavirus after infection. At Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna, it is more than 90%.
At 70%, the protection rate of Astra Zeneca is lower than that of the competition. However, if a weaker first partial vaccination is given, 90% is achieved.
A protection rate of 70% is still higher than that of the influenza vaccine (up to a maximum of 60%). In the case of influenza, for example, those who fall ill, despite being vaccinated, usually have a milder course, with fewer complications.

At the end of January, the Covid-19 vaccine from Oxford University could be approved in the EU, in cooperation with the pharmaceutical company Astra Zeneca. The phase II / III study was published as an interim evaluation.
The preparation from Oxford University and Astra Zeneca, should prevent slightly fewer diseases, than the RNA vaccines from Biontech and Moderna.
At a maximum of 70%, the protection rate of Astra Zeneca could be significantly lower than that of the mRNA vaccines of Biontech / Pfizer, Moderna – each more than 90 percent effective.
