Can anyone travel safely during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Without any doubt, travel has become a nightmare, because of the Coronavirus catastrophe. In many countries, public transport such as trains and buses are not yet available, for people to travel locally – to get to work.
Many people are resorting to travel to work by bikes. But apparently, even this does not seem to gel well with people, who seem to be against bikers doing this. And really, what option do people have, but to travel to their place of work by bike?
Everyone does not own a car to get to work!
“People feel more protected in the car these days.”
In places where there is a public transport available, many people are afraid to travel by this, for fear of getting infected with the Coronavirus disease.
“You can’t force people to take the train or the bus until they feel completely comfortable and that will take time. We all want to go back to normal, but it’s a process and it’s been slow. Plus the regular buses and trains I was on pre-Covid, there is no way to socially distance.”
Just how are people supposed to get to get to work during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Corey Johnson, NYC Council Speaker states:
“If we let traffic continue to snarl our streets while letting mass transit and biking infrastructure flounder, we will do grave damage to both our economy and our environment. We must adapt and reimagine how people get around our city.”
“Along with the cars comes the increased danger to the cyclists. Please up your commitment to bike infrastructure and our safety. (Including my 3-year-old who rides with me).”
“Get rid of the bikes and bike lanes!!”
So back to the big question – Can anyone travel safely during the COVID-19 pandemic?
