South Africa church attack, 5 dead!
The police of South Africa have reported that there was a hostage situation on Saturday morning, July 11, 2020, at the International Pentecostal Holiness Church headquarters in Zuurbekom, located on the outskirts of Johannesburg, South Africa.
South African police also state that they had seized a lot of weapons and arrested 40 persons in the South Africa church attack. Amongst the people arrested were people from correctional services, defense forces and members of the police.
Police reported 6 injured people, a security guard found shot in a car and 4 people – “shot and burned to death in a car”. The South Africa church attack was done by a group of people who were armed.
Police say that the attack:
“May have been motivated by a feud”, between members of the church.
SA Police Tweeted:
“Early hours this morning #SAPS was alerted to a hostage situation & shooting @ International Pentcost Holiness Church, Zuurbekom, 30 suspects arrested & seized more than 25 firearms. 5 fatalities are confirmed. The scene is still active with SAPS Hostage Negotiators.’
The Zuurbekom headquarters of the church, has seen violence a number of times in recent years, between factions. Shots have been fired, cars have been smashed and rocks have been thrown, amongst other things.
In the year 2018, it had been reported by the Sowetan newspaper:
“Trouble has been brewing at the church following the death of its leader Glayton Modise in February 2016.”
Police claim that they have rescued kids, women and men, who were held hostage in the church and who appeared to have been residing in the church itself.
Khehla John Sitole, National Police Commissioner, stated:
The response by security forces, on the South Africa church attack, “averted what could have been a more severe bloodbath.”
The International Pentecostal Holiness Church headquarters in Zuurbekom, is the richest and also one of the biggest in South Africa.
